Making artificial things intelligent...

Who am I?

Well, I am Shapol. I live, breathe, and dream all things to do with AI and Aerospace. I'm 21 years old.

Cool fact: Shapol means "waves."

My articles

Here are some of my thoughts
Bread
Rethinking the Mind
Beyond Algorithms and Steam Engines.

Maybe we shouldn't assume that life is all about data processing and that humans are merely machines for making calculations and taking decisions. This analogy between humans and algorithms might not be accurate.

Bread
A Tale of Two Loaves
The surprising irony of socio-economic development as seen through bread

Bread plays an important role in many cultures and faiths. Even in my upbringing, I have always remembered bread being an almost-sacred item. My parents would always remind me how we should respect bread and that I should eat the bread crusts too.

Healthcare
What Healthcare Can Learn From Aviation?
A reflection on two books I've recently read.

One of the bloodiest causes of death is also one of the most overlooked. It is not malaria, HIV, or COVID-19, but it is medical errors.

Jaffa
Jaffa Cakes Are Cakes
Not Biscuits

What is the best thing to gorge on? Jaffa cake is the only correct answer and I will brook no opposition. I don’t mind if they’re McVitie’s brand Jaffa cakes, or Pim’s, the suspicious European variety. Even Tescos’s Value Jaffa cakes float my balloon. Take a soft sponge biscuit, slap some jam and chocolate on that puppy, and you’re golden.

My favourite books

How not to be wrong
How not to be wrong
Written by  Jordan Ellenberg

This is my most gifted book. It is what got me interested in 'proper' non-fiction books when I was 13. It connects various economic and societal philosophies with basic mathematics and statistical principles with some fascinating anecdotes and thoughts along the way.

Homo Deus
Homo Deus
Written by Yuval Noah Harari

Homo Deus examines our future. It blends science, history, philosophy, and every discipline in between, offering a vision of tomorrow that at first seems incomprehensible but will soon looks undeniable. It covers how new technologies such as artificial intelligence and genetic engineering will affect humanity.

Industries of the Future
The Industries of the Future
Alec Ross

The book was written in 2016 and it very nicely predicts the industries of the future such as robotics, advanced life sciences, the codification of money, cyber security, and big data.

Some projects I've worked on

What I'm working on now: Giving artificial things intelligence...
Nebula
The Nebula Rocket
An altitude record-breaking rocket

My favourite project because I worked with the most awesome team possible!

Kruiz
KRUIZ
Waterborne eVTOL vehicle

For the "flying car" to become a reality, they need to adapt to todays infrastructure - just like how cars adapted to the muddy lanes before roads came along. In London, there is only one public helipad whereas there are 30+ (unused) piers. Why not land at the piers first until the infrastructure gets built?

Aurora
Aurora Rocket
A reusable spaceshot rocket

A rocket designed to reach a 100km (Karman Line - the official boundary to space) altitude using LOX and ethanol whilst being fully reusable.

Novator
Submersible vehicle
A yacht that can submerge under water

A cool company that I joined over a summer. Great culture. Great people. Great tech. Could be featured in a James Bond movie.

Novator
Novator NZ-90
A regional airliner

Designed to fly routes in New Zealand.
